Two of the most common ones are CBD and kratom. Let’s explore each one a little more closely.

CBD Oil

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a natural extract derived from the cannabis plant. Unlike another cannabis extract, THC, it does not contain psychoactive properties and will not get you high.

Instead, CBD is more commonly used for medicinal purposes.

Full-spectrum CBD oil contains a variety of naturally-occurring cannabis plant extracts, including up to 0.3% THC. On the other hand, while wide-spectrum CBD oil also contains many extracts, it’s usually devoid of THC.

MCT vs Hemp Oil

These are the same receptors that also bind to prescription painkillers. As such, while it’s not technically an opioid, kratom can not only quell anxiety but can also relax your tense muscles and provide powerful pain relief. 

Then, there’s CBD.

CBD does not bind to the opioid receptors in your brain. Instead, it binds to your body’s cannabinoid receptors, located throughout your brain and nervous system. When you’re seeking anxiety relief, the CBD will bind to your CB1 receptors. These are the ones that affect pain, mood and emotion. 

Possible Side Effects

Kratom and CBD oil also have different associated risks and side effects. For instance, while most people can tolerate CBD oil well, taking quantities that are too high can result in:

  • Low blood pressure
  • Depression

Conversely, kratom carries a slightly longer list of possible side effects. A few of the most prominent ones include:

This is the type of acute pain that’s caused by physical damage to your body’s tissue systems. For instance, a broken bone, a cut on your leg, or a burn on your wrist are all examples of nociceptive pain. Once it heals, it should dissipate.

Then, there’s neuropathic pain. This is chronic, long-term pain that’s caused by the damage, dysfunction or deterioration of neurons in your body. This causes your brain to receive messages of pain even though there’s no actual, physical damage to your body.

One of the most common types of neuropathic pain is fibromyalgia. It’s also prevalent in multiple sclerosis and neuropathy. 

CBD or Kratom: Which to Choose For Pain?

Both CBD and kratom can work well on nociceptive and neuropathic pain.

For instance, you might rub a CBD-infused lotion onto a tight back after a particularly long day at work. Or, you might find great relief from a daily cup of kratom tea if you suffer from fibromyalgia.

To help you decide between the two, keep in mind that because it binds to your brain’s opioid receptors, there is a chance of withdrawal symptoms associated with kratom. This is especially true if you take it for a long time and stop suddenly without tapering your doses. However, these symptoms are mild compared to those you’d experience with an actual opioid addiction. 

Botanicals For Energy and Mood Elevation

Sometimes, you don’t want to relax or unwind. You also don’t need pain relief. Instead, you simply want a perk-up!
