1. Scrimping on Quality

We get it. It might seem as though everything is more expensive these days. Shouldn’t you be able to choose the lowest-priced CBD oil and still get a great experience?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work this way. 

Keep in mind that CBD is extracted from hemp. That said, not all hemp plants are created equal.

2. Starting With a Super High Dose

As with any supplement, it’s best to start with a modest dose of CBD and work your way upward once you know what you can comfortably tolerate.

Ultimately, your proper CBD dose will hinge on a few different factors, including:

  • Your height
  • Your weight
  • Your overall health

While no universal dosing guide exists, there are general industry guidelines that you can follow. Try starting with 2.5 milligrams of CBD oil per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg), taking it twice daily. That would mean consuming a total dosage of 5 mg/kg each day.

If you tolerate that well, then you can increase the dosage to 5 mg/kg, twice daily. This is a total of 10 mg/kg each day. From there, gradually add to your dose until you’ve reached the level you prefer.

3. Starting With a Super Low Dose

If you’re new to this space, it’s understandable (and recommended!) to exercise caution when measuring your initial dose. However, keep in mind that to feel the effects of CBD oil, it’s best to take the recommended daily minimum. 

Whether you’re considering it to help ease anxiety, soothe chronic pain, or simply improve your mood, it’s important to make sure you’re getting the right amount. 

4. Measuring Your Dose Based on Drops

Think a few drops of CBD oil should do the trick? Remember that the size of each drop is dependent on the amount that you squeeze into the dropper. 

Instead of counting each drop, measure your dose with the lines on the dropper itself. Once you know your preferred dose, you can fill to the same line each time. If you overfill the dropper, simply squeeze out the excess back into the container using the rubber tip.

5. Swallowing the Oil Immediately

When you first take CBD oil, it’s common to swallow the substance immediately.

While there’s no harm in taking it this way, it doesn’t maximize the benefits you can receive. To use your oil most efficiently, drop it under your tongue and hold it in your mouth for about 30 to 90 seconds before swallowing. 

This way, the compounds in the oil can be absorbed into your bloodstream quicker. If you swallow it too quickly, it could lose potency as it travels through your liver and digestive system. 

6. Not Consulting Your Physician

Any time you’re thinking about adding a new supplement into your health routine, it’s always best to talk to your doctor first. This professional knows your complete medical history and can advise you on the next steps to follow.

When you have this conversation, a few of the key questions you can ask include:

7. Using CBD Oil Irregularly

Like a majority of supplements, you’ll see the most benefits from CBD oil when you take it on a regular and consistent basis. This is especially the case if you’re using it to help ease a long-term condition.

For instance, if you simply pulled your back out at work, you might find quick relief from a few drops of oil. However, if you’re using it to help soothe chronic pain or anxiety, you might not experience the benefits you expect after just one use. 

This is because CBD works directly with your body’s endocannabinoid system to help regulate chemical imbalances. If your physician gives you the green light, try CBD oil for two weeks before ruling it out as a viable way to help your condition.
